COWORKING OFFICE in UBUD, BALI | 2019
Hubud
Hubud is planning to open a larger venue that will extend their successful coworking model to visitors, locals, and expats in Ubud, Bali. The design of this new space incorporates light and shadow, drawing inspiration from the symbolic journey of the local Kokokan bird to create a serene atmosphere. Utilizing Balinese design principles and sustainable materials, it aims to provide Hubud members with an inspirational and natural environment. The design concept reflects the migratory behavior of herons, symbolizing the Hubud coworking member's quest for a better work-life balance. By analyzing the behavior of these birds, the design embodies a continuous journey. An internal wind turbine mimics the graceful characteristics of the heron, while calming organic lines on the ceiling of Level 1 create dynamic shadows on the walls. These shadows subtly shift as people walk by, enhanced by the soft natural light filtering through Bali's lush vegetation.
Interior Perspective Level One Hubud, Bali - Views Towards The Wind Turbine
The interior features a wind turbine that generates energy for the building, minimizing its environmental impact. The design abstractly represents the continuous journey of Hubud members and the flight of the Kokokan bird. Bamboo has been chosen as the primary material because it is lightweight, can be suspended within the ceiling cavity, and is responsibly sourced.
Interior Perspective Level One Hubud, Bali - Views Towards The Garden
The aim is to create an iconic piece of architecture for Hubud. As the passer by looks towards the building they see glimpses of the moving turbine, their curiosity is captured, and they venture towards the entry from where they begin their journey towards a new way to work, collaborate and engage with a diverse range of individuals.
